‘Growing in love, in the spirit of Christ, for the benefit of all’

Examples of Our Collective Worship Celebrations

In our Loving topic, we learn about the idea of unconditional love and how this is presented in the Bible through the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  We also discuss how the Beatitudes give us advice about how to behave lovingly to one another.

Vocation and Commitment

In this topic, the children learn about what it means to be called by God for a special mission, or vocation. They learn about the importance of commitment and whether this is an easy or tricky thing to have. This is linked to the Sacrament of Ordination, or Holy Orders; this involves a number of religious signs and symbols.

In this topic, the children learn about Rosh Hashanah, the 10 Days of Awe and Yom Kippur. They explore the traditions and behaviours of Jewish people during these special events and celebrations.

During this Advent topic, the children learn about what it means to wait expectantly, particularly in the lead up to the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas.

Specifically, they learn about the Annunciation and the expectations that were placed upon Mary during this time, as well as how she reacted to them.

Our first topic of the Lent term is all about sources of information and understanding how books can enrich our lives in a variety of ways. We learn about the different parts of the Bible and how it is a source of information, comfort and guidance (amongst others!) for many Christians.

The children investigate the similarities and differences between the four Gospels and compare some of the stories found in them.

In this topic, we learn about what it means to be united with one another. Specifically, we look at a special prayer named The Prayer for Unity which Jesus gave to his disciples before he was crucified. It gives us advice on living peacefully with each other.

We also look at how Jesus encouraged unity during The Last Supper.
